Question:

Hi I have a 2002 Toyota Tundra that I add a tow package to it. Only the tow package that I add has 4 pin connector, but my boat trailer has 5 pins connector. To my understanding the blue wire of my trailer is used for the brake surge but I don’t know how and where to wire a 4 pin from my truck to a 5 pins of the boat trailer. Would I need a brake controler for that ? Please advise me how to wire with a diagram if possible. Thank you.. Ps: I also have the Tekonsha iQ primus brake controler

We have exactly what you need to hook up the 4-Way connector on your Toyota Tundra to the 5-Way on your boat trailer. You are correct that the additional wire on a boat trailer's 5-Way is typically used for the reverse lockout solenoid on the actuator, which prevents the trailer brakes from locking up when going in reverse.

You do not need a brake controller to connect to the 5-Way and activate this wire. All you need is the Tow Ready Wiring Adapter # 20036. This will plug right into the existing 4-Way on your Tundra and provide a 5-Way connector on the other end. The blue wire coming from the adapter will then just need to be spliced to the reverse light wire on the truck. You can use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to find this wire. Have a buddy activate the reverse lights on the truck (with the emergency brake on) while you test the wires going to the tail lights for the one that gets power with this function.
