I need a trailer hitch with a 350# TW capacity for a 2005 Chevy Malibu 4 door sedan, new style body

Expert Reply:
The Curt trailer hitch receiver, part # C12272, does have a 350 pound tongue weight capacity and is confirmed to fit your 2005 Chevrolet Malibu.
With that being said I looked at the owner's manual to your Malibu and the vehicle itself is only rated to tow a maximum of 1,000 pounds and the tongue weight can only be 10 to 15 percent of a trailer's weight. This means your car has a maximum tongue weight capacity of 150 pounds and adding a higher rated hitch isn't going to change that. You're always limited by your lowest rated component which is often the vehicle itself.
If you can tell me what you're trying to carry on your car I may have other recommendations that will work for you.
