For your 2014 BMW 535d, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11381. We have confirmed with Curt that this hitch does fit your 535d (Diesel) model and we have also had a few customers install this hitch without issue on their BMW 535d.
This Class I hitch will provide you with a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening and it has a tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds. I have attached an installation video on the 2013 model BMW 5 Series, along with the written instructions that you can use for reference. Please note that Curt does require that all non-trailer loads such as bike racks and cargo carriers be supported with a stabilizing strap like # 18050.
If you happen to be looking for a hitch-mounted bike rack to use with this hitch, you will just want to make sure the option you choose is compatible with Class I trailer hitches. Also keep in mind that a Class I hitch has a maximum capacity of 2 bikes.
I really like the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Platform Rack # KU74FR. This is an excellent, platform-style rack that will use ratcheting hooks to hold your bikes by the wheels with no frame contact. It is compatible with Class I hitches and can support 2 bikes of up to 40 pounds each. A spring-loaded foot pedal is also built-in that will allow you to easily tilt the rack back for easy rear cargo access on the vehicle.
I have attached a short video demonstration on this bike rack that you can check out, along with a link that will take you to our available selection of Class I compatible bike racks.
