Question:
Need additional cargo space. Considering adding trailer hitch to be able to use bumper carrier. Wonder how this will impact backup sensors.

When a vehicle that has rear lift gate sensors has a hitch installed sometimes the middle sensor will be blocked by the hitch receiver tube. Usually the other sensors continue to function without incident and so in practical terms you just need to swing your foot near one of the outside sensors.
If you add a no-drill-install hitch like # 75679 and also install a hitch cargo carrier like # C18151 you may need to approach the vehicle from the side in order to activate the lift gate. I linked videos for both this hitch and this carrier for your review.
When using a carrier like this you will want to make sure you do not exceed the tongue weight rating of the hitch (400-lbs) or of the vehicle itself. Since this Curt carrier weighs 70-lbs, this means the hitch could handle up to 330-lbs of loaded cargo before its 400-lb capacity is reached.
