Question:

Having to pull the headliner sounds a little overboard for a roof rack. I also have been doing some other looking on your sight and saw one post where one of the techs said it did use toggle bolts? What are the customer clips you are referring to? I am looking for the best way to mount a luggage system to accommodate my Thule cargo basket.

The Thule Roof Mounted Top Rack System - 54" Long # THTP54 attaches to your roof with the included fastening hardware. You will need to remove your headliner in your 2012 Dodge 2500 to install the tracks, so you will be able to easily work around any wiring in your roof. The kit comes with sealant as well to ensure a water tight connection. To use the rails, you will need fit kit # THKIT3101 and Podium feet # TH460R, and then crossbars # TH711520 or # TH711500.

If you don't want to use the track, you can instead use the same crossbars, the # TH710501 feet, and then use the fit kit # TH145106 which will be a custom fit for your 2012 Dodge 2500.

With either option, I recommend the Thule One-Key System Lock Cylinders - Qty 4 # TH450400 to secure your system to your roof and deter theft.

I agree that the track installation is not ideal. I personally would go with the custom clips designed for your vehicle because drilling into a roof is not my first choice. The hardware in the track system is a flare nut and screw. I've attached the instructions for you. I highly recommend you go with the roof rack that is confirmed to fit that does not require drilling. This will consist of # TH711520, # TH460R, # THKIT1834, and locks # TH450400. This roof rack will attach using the clips in the # THKIT1834 which are a custom fit for your vehicle to follow the contours of your roof just above the door frames. This will not scratch or cause damage to your vehicle, but will securely hold the roof rack and allow you to use your Thule cargo basket. See the attached video on the Ram 1500 to assist.
