Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2004 Lexus LS 430

Updated 02/26/2018 | Published 02/25/2018

Question:

I have a C12230 Hitch Receiver on a Lexus LS400. Would like to have a hitch on my 2004 LS430. Can you tell me the differences between the C12230 and C12231? The 430 calls for a C12231. Also, when you list towing capacity, LS400 / C12230 @ 3,500 pounds, Does that mean the hitch and how its mounted should be able to pull a trailer and cargo of up to 3,500 pounds? Thinking I will try to find a super light weight small trailer to pick up some building materials an occasion. Should this work?

The two Curt hitches both look pretty similar but they have different mount hole patterns on the mounting flanges as they are for different vehicle configurations. The part # C12230 will not fit on your 2004 Lexus LS 430. For that you'll need the part # C12231 that you also referenced as it is a confirmed fit.

The towing capacity of this hitch is 2,500 lbs which means the hitch is strong enough for that trailer weight. Now you'll need to also check the owners manual of your vehicle to verify that it has at least the same capacity to be able to take advantage of the 2,500 lb capacity of this hitch. Basically the lowest rated component in a towing setup is the overall capacity which can be the vehicle.
