Tailgate Clearance for the Thule Motion XT Rooftop Cargo Box

Question:

Hello I have a 2016 Toyota 4 runner that I will be mounting the Thule Aero blades to my factory rack. Will my tailgate have opening clearance on the top if this box is mounted to the roof Thanks

The Thule Motion XT, part # TH629806 is a recommended fit for your 2016 Toyota 4Runner by Thule, however, you can verify the fit prior to purchase by taking a quick measurement.

If your crossbars are adjustable, move them as far forward as possible. Then, measure from the center of the front bar to the line where your rear hatch meets your roof. This is your front clearance.

For the Thule Motion XT to be compatible with your vehicle's rear hatch, you'll need this distance to be at least 51-1/4 inches. If its shorter than this, you can step down to the large variant of the motion, part # TH629706, which only requires 47-1/2 inches of clearance.
