Recommended Weight Distribution WD System for a 2014 Keystone Sprinter 299RET and 2006 Ford F-250

Published 11/21/2017

Question:

I have a 2014 Keystone Sprinter 299RETT being pulled by a 2006 F250 4X4. I am looking for a weight distribution hitch that will work with both. I do not want the type that uses chains. Im thinking 14K for weight. I like the Reese which has the padding for the bars to ride in. Let me know which hitch will work for my application. Thank you.

When picking out the correct Weight Distribution (WD) system you will want to choose a WD system with a Tongue Weight (TW) range that the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your towing setup falls in the middle of. To find the TTW of your towing setup you will need to add the TW of your fully loaded and ready-to-go trailer along with the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Keep in mind that a properly loaded trailer will have a TW that is 10-15% of the loaded weight of your trailer. You can use a the etrailer scale # e99044 to find this or the other method found in the linked article.

When I looked up the weight ratings of your trailer it has a dry weight of 8,152 lbs and a GVWR of 10,850 lbs. If we estimate that your loaded weight is 10,000 lbs then that puts your TW at 1,000 lbs - 1,500 lbs. A system like the Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66561 that is rated for up to 14,000 lbs Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) and has a TW range of 700 lbs - 1,400 lbs could very well be the one that you need. You will want to verify your TTW though before purchasing.

Should you go with this WD system then you will also need a hitch ball. You can use part # A-90 for a 2" hitch ball or part # 19286 for a 2-5/16" hitch ball.

I have attached a review video on the WD system as well as links to some helpful articles.
