Appropriate Size of Roof Bars for a 2013 Cadillac SRX

Question:
Hello, I am concerned about purchasing this recommended roof cross bar system on my 2013 Cadillac SRX. I measured the distance form the outside edge to outside edge of the existing rack that came with the vehicle and I am concerned the 58inch is too long and will extend well beyond the cars body and possible hit people in the head while entering and leaving the vehicle. Is this the right cross bar length for my vehicle as it is recommending? If it extends beyond the cars body will I be able to easily cut them shorter if needed?

Expert Reply:
Malone tends to recommend their bars a little longer than normal, primarily because Malone deals a lot in watercraft carriers and they often require additional crossbar spread to use correctly and clear the sides. The 58 inch long Malone AirFlow2, part # MPG216 is sized the way it is so that it properly fits your roof rack spread. The installation instructions and recommended locations tend to put them well out of the way of anyone's heads while getting out of the vehicle.
I've included videos of installs of slightly smaller Thule (53 inches) and Rhino Rack (46 inches) so you can get an idea of how they fit to the vehicle in terms of size.
