I have a 2000 Chevy Venture Short Wheelbase, FWD and a 2005 Chevy Equinox FWD. I will be installing a class 3 trailer hitch to both vehicles, and would like to install brake controllers as well. i knw there is a factory harness for a 4-pin connector, but what do i connect the 3 additional wires for the brake controller to?

We have an online information page, see link that contains a wiring diagram that shows how all the trailer wiring connections are made.
Along with a four-way wiring harness, item # 118391 for the Equinox and # C55355 for the Venture, you will also need the # ETBC7 brake controller installation kit. There is an online video that shows the installation kit being installed on a 2003 Chevrolet Express Van which will be similar to the installation on your vehicles.
The blue wire is the brake output and would run from the controller to the rear to attach to the blue wire on the 7-way connector included in the install kit.
The red wire attaches to the wire leading off the cold side of the brake switch. This switch is located at the top of the brake pedal, the wire you want to tap into will show voltage only when the brake pedal is pressed. We recommend you use a Circuit Tester, item # PTW2993, to confirm this connection.
The black wire will run to a 12-volt power source via an inline circuit breaker, item # PK54530, included in the install kit.
The white wire attaches to ground.
I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, item # 90885, for your vehicles. This controller is easy to setup and use and is one of the highest rated electric brake controllers, by our customers.
