Installing Replacement Towing Mirrors on a 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 with Temperature Sensor

Question:

I have a 2017 Silverado 1500 with electric/heated LED signal small mirrors from the factory. I see that KS62135-36G would be a good replacement. Im pretty confident I can install them. However, the dealer is telling me the OEM mirrors they sell are a 4.5 hour install due to programming after the physical install. To my knowledge the install consists basically of this: 1. Remove trim piece to get a mirror 2. Unbolt old mirror 3. Unclip wiring harness and remove old mirror 4. Connect wiring harness of new mirror 5. Bolt on new mirror 6. Replace trim piece 7. Drive off happy What is this programming the dealer is talking about?

The dealer is referring to a temperature sensor that is placed in the passenger side mirror. The temperature sensor is only present on the 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 trucks that have a diesel engine. If you have a diesel engine then the K-Source Custom Extendable Towing Mirrors - Electric/Heat w LED Signal part # KS62135-36G would cause a check engine light (CEL) to appear which would in turn require you to take it to the dealer for reprogramming in order to remove the check engine light.

As long as your truck is equipped with a gas engine then these side view towing mirrors will work just fine for you and will not require reprogramming of your vehicle's factory computer. The installation process you described will be almost identical to how these towing mirrors install on your truck.
