Parts Needed to Convert Motorcycle Trailers from Jayco Square to 5-Pole Flat Wiring Connectors

Updated 09/06/2017 | Published 09/03/2017

Question:

I just had your trailer harness P/N 118532 installed in a 2011 Hyundai Elantra, along with a 5-wire adapter P/N 20036. This adapter has a 5-wire flat connector. My 2 motorcycle trailers use a 6-wire rectangular connector 2 rows of 3 wires, with one wire not used. Do you have a way to adapt the 5-flat to 6-rectangular? If not do you have a 5-wire flat connector? I have a 6-rectangular and can wire it up myself if I had a 5-flat.

It sounds like your motorcycle trailers use Jayco-style wiring connectors, such as # 37995.

The best way to make your trailer and tow vehicle wiring compatible is to convert the trailers to 5-pole flat wiring. The linked page displays various trailer-side 5-pole flat connectors, like # A40W5B. You can use butt connectors # 05730-5 (one for each trailer) and dielectric grease # 11755 to make solid long-lasting connections.

The linked article on trailer wiring will help you match the wiring functions. Wire colors alone are not a reliable way to make connections.
