Question:
Hi- Have towed in yrs past, travel trailers but lately only smaller single and dual utility trailers. Very familiar with wiring and pinouts. 2013 Expy EL OEM console mt trailer brake controller. Has regular tow pkg w/4 flat only. Have the full wiring diagrams. Do not know which of the shown OEM connectors the Brake controller leed appears in or where it stops. Have colors or wires but not sure where leed will have to be added to get it back to tlr connector at rear. Hope you have run into this before. Interested in 7-blade with 4-5 flat or adapter to make complete. Have done much splicing in job, so can do either OEM style or connect to 7 blade. Hope not too confusing or too long! TX

To install a brake controller on your 2013 Ford Expedition w/ factory tow package and 4-way connector, you will need to install Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole, part # 37185 (which comes with a 4-way). You will need to run 2 wires, the Black wire for 12 volt power, and the Blue wire, which supplies power to the brakes. The Blue and Black wire will connect to the Ford wires that terminate along the frame of the F-150 near the spare tire (see FAQ).
Then, you will need to use the vehicle specific adapter to plug the brake controller into the brake controller port underneath the dash of your truck. If you have a Tekonsha brake controller, you will need to use the Tow Ready Adapter, part # 3034-P.
For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes. This will be the last brake controller you buy. It can easily be transferred to future vehicles as well.
