Differences Between the Yakima LongHaul and RoadTrip 4-Bike Racks for RVs

Updated 07/24/2020 | Published 08/12/2017

Question:

Can you tell me the difference between the Yakima Long Haul and Road Trip bike racks? We need something for the back of a 32 foot fifth wheel camper. We currently have an Allen 4 bike rack and after just 20 miles, the folding arms bend down because they arent strong enough to take the bounce at the back of our camper. Thank you.

Both the Yakima LongHaul, part # Y02476 and the RoadTrip, part # Y02477, are RV rated bike racks that are extremely similar, but have a few differences that can change which is best for you. I've included our video review of both racks to help you get a feel for each of them.

The LongHaul's major differences from the RoadTrip is the integrated lock system and overall heftier construction. The LongHaul includes an integrated hitch lock to secure the rack to the vehicle when not in use, and the cable system adds an additional layer of protection to the bikes to deter against theft when parked. Additionally, the LongHaul includes 2 safety straps for added security while on the road. It is also finished in gray, if you have concerns about matching your RV's overall asthetic.

The RoadTrip is 3 pounds lighter and carries the same capacity, but does not include any locking mechanisms. You will need to add kits like the SKS Lock Cores, part # Y07202, Hitch Lock, part # Y07235 and Cable Lock, part # Y07233 in order to achieve the same security that is integrated into the LongHaul. It is finished in black if style is a concern.

Either bike rack will benefit from the addition of an adapter bar like Swagman's Deluxe Frame Adapter, part # 64005. This will allow for you to safely carry Women's Children's or alternative frame (BMX/Mountain Bike) bikes without them riding at odd angles and risking impact with the road, RV, or other bikes.

Est-ce qu'il serait acceptable d'installer 2 vélos électriques de 55 lbs sur le yakima LongHaul derrière une caravane de voyage? J'ai une attelage de 2 po. sur le frame de la roulotte. Would it be acceptable to install 2 55 lbs electric bikes on the Yakima LongHaul behind a travel trailer? I have a 2 '' hitch. on the frame of the trailer.

The Yakima LongHaul # Y02476 has a 37.5 pound per-bike capacity, so you won'[t be able to safely load two 55 pound e-bikes to the rack. The Swagman E-Spec # S94FR is a great alternative that can easily handle those bikes and is approved for use at the back of a trailer.
