Why Is Heat Shield Trimming Required for Hitch Installation on 2014 Ford Focus

Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4 Item # 24872 Why does the heat sheild need to be cut or bent out of the way? Is it a spacing spacing issue?

It is not too unusual for trimming of a vehicle heat shield to be required when installing an aftermarket hitch like the Curt # C11158 that fits your 2014 Ford Focus. In some cases, simply bending the shield can be enough but in other cases the part is best trimmed and then re-installed. This can vary since the positioning of vehicle exhaust hangers is not exact from one car to another; these hangers are positioned and welded by hand on the assembly line so their position, and so the need to trim the heat shield, can vary from vehicle to vehicle. This minor modification avoids the potential for any rattle or noise from the hitch contacting the heat shield.
