will this hitch in any way interfere with the sensors for the handsfree trunk opening and closing?

While it is unlikely that etrailer trailer hitch # e93KR will interfere with the hands-free hatch sensors on your 2017 BMW X1 there is still the possibility that it will limit functionality of it. This means that the range the sensors can see can be reduced.

If you plan on doing some towing I recommend Curt ball mount kit # C45534.

And for trailer wiring you can use T-one harness # 118717 to add a 4-Way flat connector to the rear of your X1.
