Where to Position Hitch Ball on the Anderson Ultimate Adapter for a Truck With 8 ft Bed

Updated 05/31/2025 | Published 06/09/2017

Question:

I bought a steel Andersen hitch 2 years ago. It works great! I was wondering , since I forgot, in my what position I need to put it in my 8ft bed. Offset ball forward closer to cab or back ?

You will want to position the Andersen Ultimate Connection 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch System with Adapter # AM3200 so that the hitch ball is over or slightly in front of (towards the cab) the rear axle on your truck. Since you have an 8 foot bed cab clearance should not be an issue so installing it to where the hitch ball is closer to the cab, but just to ensure that your trailer has the proper clearance with the back of your bed the 9" offset should be towards the tailgate.

@Bryant I don't have a photo to send you, but if you orient it the same way as I referenced above (since you also have a short bed), it will get you the proper clearance you need.
