Question:

I have a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 2wd base model. I need to know what I will need to wire my truck to pull a camper with the round 6 blade plug. I have a 6 wire harness under the bed of my truck, dont know what harness I need to have lights and brakes on the camper. I do know I have to install a brake box and harness to relay box under the dash just not sure what else I need to have lights and brakes on the camper.Any help would be appreciated.

Your 2002 Chevy Silverado came wired with a factory 7-way so I recommend you use the Replacement Multi-Tow 7-Way & 4 Pole Trailer Connector # 74682. If that wiring connector isn't present, then I recommend hardwiring the plug using the Pollak 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector Socket w/ Wiring Harness and Mounting Bracket # PK11898. I've attached an article to help you with this wiring, but you will simply splice into the present wiring based on function. Then to adapt to your camper's 6 way round, I recommend using the Hopkins Adapter 7-Pole to 6-Pole - Universal # 47549.

To make the brake functions of your trailer compatible with your truck, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. This brake controller is a proportional controller meaning it will give your trailer the same braking intensity at the same time as you hit the brake pedal in your truck. This controller has an easy to read and understand LCD screen that takes the code deciphering out of the equation. This controller has 3 preset brake boost options and is customizable to your driving preferences.

This brake controller will plug into your truck using the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - GM # 3025-P. This adapter plugs into the port that is built into the electric junction box beneath your vehicle's dash. The black box is located to the left of the steering column, just above the carpet. To plug in the adapter, first remove the cover on the box. The adapter plugs into the second slot from the left, on the top row.
