Recommended 4-Way Flat Connection For Kayak Trailer And Vehicle

Question:

This weekend I was pulled over by a state cop because my lights on the trailer werent working properly. State trooper wouldnt let me move the trailer unless they worked correct. I realized it was an issue in the 4 prong connector and was forced to chop them off and wire them direct. It got me home but now I need to figure out how to replace the connectors that I chopped off. Can it be soldered? Do you offer replacement connectors? The car side was white, brown, yellow, green with 3 female 1 male on the plug. The trailer had 5 wires going into the plug, green, yellow, brown yellow, green brown, white. To a plug that was 3 male 1 female. How can I replace these connectors without rewiring everything?

To fix the 4 way connections you cut off, I recommend the Quick Fix 4 Pole Flat Car and Trailer Ends # 48195. If you want to add the LED test lights so you know your vehicle side is working, you can use the Hopkins Endurance Quick-Fix Replacement 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector w LED Test Lights - Vehicle End # HM48190.

The 5th wire on the trailer side will need to be doubled up. This extra wire is a running light duplicate that often is added so a jumper wire is not needed from one side of the trailer to the other. It is what is known as a wishbone wiring harness.
