Question:
I am looking for a hitch to use with my new 2017 gulf stream ultralight 21 ft travel trailer. It is 2800lbs dry weight 3500 lb Max weight. It uses a 2 5/16 Hitch ball. The young weight is listed as 250 to 350 lbs. The Escape with trailer tow package Has a max tongue weight of 350 lb.

When trying to decide on the proper weight distribution system for your towing rig, you will need to know the total tongue weight of your set-up. The total tongue weight will be a fully loaded ready to tow trailer, plus any weight located behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle.
I have attached an article that will explain how to find your total tongue weight of your vehicle and trailer.
Now, assuming that the 350 lbs tongue weight is fully loaded and ready tow, then I would recommend a weight distribution system that has a tongue weight range were your 350 lbs tongue weight will fall somewhere in the middle. The Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System, # RP66072, will work with tongue weights between 200-600 lbs. The Reese Strait-Line uses a sway-control cams to that will automatically self-adjust and self-center to help eliminate trailer sway.
For a 2-5/16 inch ball, I recommend # 19286 and # ALL643216 1-7/8 inch Socket for 3/4 inch Drive to install the ball to the weight distribution head.
Once you have found your total tongue weight, you will be able to decided if this Reese system will work for your towing application.
