What all do we need to purchase for our escape to hold four Kayaks on the roof rack?

Carrying 4 kayaks on a vehicle roof is going to require a special type of carrier and the kayaks would have to be carried on their sides directly on roof rack crossbars. The first thing you will need is a roof rack that includes crossbars that run side to side if your 2017 Ford Escape does not already have one. I have included a link to the roof rack main page for your vehicle. There are 2 roof options listed, not existing rails or crossbars and factory raised rails. Choose the type that your Escape has to see the available options.

Then for a carrier that can handle 4 kayaks you could use the Rhino-Rack Nautic # RRS520. It comes with straps to secure 2 kayaks but you would need to add straps to secure an additional 2 kayaks # RRRTD55P. Be sure to consult the vehicle owner's manual and/or Ford for the roof capacity prior to loading anything on a roof rack.

Another option is to use what is called a roof rack on wheels, # Y08106. Using this small trailer will make loading and unloading the kayaks much easier. You would still need the carrier and straps to secure the kayaks and the vehicle will need to have a trailer hitch and wiring. You can add both using # 75758 for the hitch, ball mount # C45112 to tow the trailer level, hitch pin and clip # PC3, 2 inch ball # 63845, and wiring # C56320.
