Will Thule Snow Chains Part # TH00204090 Work for a 2001 Mercedes C200 Kompressor from Europe

Updated 01/04/2011 | Published 01/03/2011

Question:

I have a 2001 Mercedes C200 Kompressor from Europe. What chains work for it? The tire dimensions are 205/55/R16. I think, my car should be similar with the 2003 C230 Kompressor US Version its a rear wheel drive, is that will be any different? Will the ESP, and ABS work properly? Thank you.

You will need to check your owner's manual or contact a Mercedes Dealer to determine the amount of clearance supplied for snow chains, and inquire as to whether snow chains are recommended for your vehicle. If your vehicle requires Class S or smaller chains that means that the chains will need to be 15mm or less.

If snow chains can be used on your Kompressor, you may want to consider the K-Summit Self-adjusting Snow Tire Chains, item # TH02230K23. They will fit your tire size of 205/55/R16. These snow chains attach easily and are the best bet for snow chains that will not damage the finish on your vehicle wheels.

Your ESP and ABS systems will work as intended when using the snow chains, so if a wheel slips the ESP will apply power to the other wheel and if the car slides in a stop the ABS will pulse the brakes for the most effective stop possible. You should also check with your owners manual or the dealer to see if the ESP system should, or can, be turned off when using snow chains.

I have provided links to information and a couple of videos for you to review.
