Is there a sliding ladder rack that fits the 2017 Ram 1500 with the 5 foot bed? Or is the bed too short for that?

There is a sliding ladder rack that will fit your 2017 Ram 1500 with the 5-1/2 foot bed. It is the TracRac SR model # TH43003XT-784. The base rails in this rack were made short enough to work with the 5-1/2 foot beds.
Also the sliding ladder racks like this are just about the only option if you wanted to add a Tonneau cover. But if you do add a Tonneau cover make sure it is one that mounts between the bed sides and not on top of the bed sides. So for example # BAK39207 would be a good choice because it mounts between the bed sides.
