I'm assuming you're speaking of an LED on a brake controller that stays on after the vehicle is shut off, is that right? If it's a different issue, please get back with me. I'd also need to know which brake controller you have.
Brake controllers are installed with a direct connection to the vehicle battery so that the controller can't be turned off and forgotten to be turned back on. The controller will go into a sleep mode after a period of no movement or activity-usually around 20-30 minutes. The power needed to illuminate 1 LED is miniscule, the vehicle would need to sit unattended for a few months before that tiny voltage draw could become an issue.
