Recommended Weight Distribution System Eagle 30 Foot Boat Trailer w/ Surge Brakes
Question:
I have an eagle 30 ft boat trailer with a surge braking system I believe. It does not use regular trailer brakes. Can I use a Weight distribution system with sway control? Max tongue weight for trailer is 700 lbs. I have a class 5 receiver on my truck. If this is possible which system would be the most economical?

A hydraulic brake coupler works by compressing when the tow vehicle applies its brakes. The inertia of the trailer makes the coupler compress, which actuates the brakes. Chain suspended weight distribution systems can prevent the coupler from compressing properly, which reduces the effectiveness of the trailer brakes.
Reese offer a system that would work perfectly on your boat trailer. The Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution system, part # RP66559 is designed for trailers with tongue weights ranging from 500-1000 lbs, which sounds perfect for your boat trailer. Boat trailers that have a pole tongue (as opposed to A-frame trailers) would also need to use a pole tongue adapter, part # RP58393. You'll also need a reducer sleeve, part # C45405, if you don't already have one.
The system includes a weight distributing shank, but the properly sized trailer bal lwith a 1-1/4 inch diameter shank is sold separately as # A-90 for a 2 inch ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch ball.
