If your 2016 Jeep Cherokee did not come with the factory trailer connector already installed then you will need to have a dealer activate the tow package and it may also require a relay.
The trailer wiring harnesses that we carry for the Cherokee fit models that did not come with the factory tow package. They plug in line with the tail light wiring. For example take a look at the Tow Ready harness # 118605. I have included a link to a video showing how it installs.
With this harness you would not have to have a dealer activate anything and no additional relays would be needed.
