Question:
Hi. I bought an older car that has a Thule rack installed. Problem is, that it looks like the key cylinder is gone. I dont know what the previous owner did to them. There is no key hole. I was wanting to adjust where the cross bars are to be able to put a basket carrier on it. Is there a way I will be able to remove the knobs so I can adjust the cross bars? Or am I stuck with the placement of them? The knobs just free spin. Tried to get a picture of what it looks like inside, but cant get a good shot. It basically looks like a flat surface where the key hole should be. Thank you.

In order to stop the roof rack knobs from free-spinning so that you can adjust the roof rack, you will want to install new lock cores or use the Thule Replacement Lock Plug # 853-6395 that you referenced. I spoke with my contact at Thule and he confirmed that using the plug or installing new cores will allow you to adjust the knob for your roof rack.
If you would like to install lock cores you can use # TH450200.
I have attached a video showing the installation of a lock core in a roof rack foot for you.
I have also attached a link to all of the cargo basket options we offer. If you'd like to let me know the year, make, and model of your vehicle, I'd be happy to make a specific recommendation for your vehicle.
