i have a 29ft sea ray slx with twin 350s and recently bought a triple axel trailer for it. What kind of winch do i need for such a beast. Dry weight is 8000#

Sounds like a pretty nice beast of a boat you have! I would recommend the Dutton-Lainson Marine Electric Winch # DL25200 for your Sea Ray SLX, because of its 4,000lb capacity.

Winch capacities vary depending on the nature of how they will be used. Factors such as the type of bunks on your trailer (rollers versus carpeted bunks), the amount of incline, the length of the winch cable or strap all affect the actual working capacity of a winch. Boat-size-to-winch capacity is generally 2 to 1. Installing roller bunks like # DL21741 can increases that ratio to 3 to 1.

The Fulton XLT Hand Winch # F142425 you were looking at would be a good choice if you wanted a hand winch for your Sea Ray SLX, but only if you have the roller bunks like mentioned above.

There is no harm in going over kill with capacity, for instance if you wanted to get the 9,000lb Dutton-Lainson Electric Winch # DL25215 it would work for your boat and the gears would just be able to not work as hard.
