If you check out the picture I attached of the MaxxHaul Truck Bed Ladder Rack MT70386 installed you can see that this rack sits very tall on the back of the truck. The overall height is 45 inches.
For a lower height ladder rack that is also cost-effective the Erickson Truck Bed Ladder Rack # EM07706 has been confirmed as a fit for your 2006 GMC Canyon with a 5 foot bed and only sits 33-1/2 inches tall.
