We have a couple options for backup cameras you can choose from.
The backup camera I recommend is the Swift Hitch Digital Wireless Hitch Alignment Camera and Monitor, part # SH02Digital. This is a portable system so you have it available to use for different trailers. The camera has a magnetic mount so you can position it where you want. It also includes a suction cup mount for non-magnetic surfaces. The camera features night vision and enables you to see up to 15 ft away in the dark.
The hand held monitor has a 2-1/2 inch high-res LCD screen and can be attached to the dash of the truck with the included Velcro strips. Both the camera and monitor have rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. With the digital system you don't have to worry about interference from Wi-Fi or Bluetooth devices. This system also comes with a handy carrying case to store it when not in use. The battery life for this system is about 4 hours maximum when fully charged and charging takes about 2.5 hours.
If you want a wired system I recommend the Hopkins Smart Hitch Backup Camera, part # HM50002. This system has the camera in the license plate holder. for the easiest installation, you can wire this system into the running lights on the trailer and be able to monitor everything behind the trailer. In order to run this system to the back of a 24-ft trailer you will need the 25-ft extension, part # HM3100504061.
If you want to use it only when the trailer is being backed up, you will need to attach the wiring to a reverse light circuit. If the trailer does not have back up lights, you will need to run the wire to the front of the trailer and attach it to the reverse light pin on the trailer connector. Or it can be hardwired to the reverse light circuit if the truck does not have a 7-Way to attach to. I have attached a link to an installation video for this system on a Silverado you can check out to get an idea how this system can be installed.
