I have a solution for you, but the part # PAL1700 that you referenced will not fit a 2005 Dodge Dakota.
For a similar tailgate lock you would want the part # PAL9900 which has been confirmed as a fit for your truck and would work well.
Or if you wanted something that wires to your vehicle power locks you would want the part # PAL8100. This will unlock and lock with the power locks of your truck.
