Trailer hitches are custom designed to fit specific mounting points on a vehicle. If a hitch is not listed as a fit for your 2008 Saab 9-3 then it physically will not fit. Cost of a hitch will vary based on the design of the hitch and the amount of material used to make it.
If you can tell me the hitch you are looking at that is similar I can determine how it is different from the hitches that are a fit for your 9-3.
Based on the trailer hitches for your 9-3 I can tell you that the attachment points are a little different between convertible models and SportCombi models. If you tried to install the SportCombi hitch # C11415 it will not mount in the proper position and be safe for use.
For a convertible model (or sedan) you will need trailer hitch # C11326. If you want to use the hitch for an accessory such as a bike rack or cargo carrier then you have to make sure the accessory is rated for use with a Class I trailer hitch. Also, with a bike rack, you are limited to 2 bikes maximum on a Class I hitch.
Curt also says you have to use stabilization strap # 18050 when using this hitch for any non-trailer load (such as a bike rack or cargo carrier) per their warranty requirements.
If you want to tow with the hitch the recommended ball mount is # C45521 with pin and clip # PC2. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and for a 2 inch ball use # 19258. And for trailer wiring you can use # C59236.
