Question:
I am looking for an oil filter relocation kit for my 2009 chevy suburban. It has the 5.3. It looks like the Derale D15725 is the way to go. If I mount the filter mount along the inside of the fender under the hood, can I mount it with the filter upside down, or would I need some sort of anti-drainback filter?

My contact at Derale advised that while it is technically possible to install their Oil Filter Relocation Kit # D15725 in an inverted position (as is sometimes done on race cars) this is not recommended. The main reason is that you'll have a real mess on your hands when it's filter change time. He suggested that a better option is to find an alternative location where you can keep the setup in the usual upright orientation. You might need some additional oil line such as # D15700. You may need to add a little bit more oil (a few ounces) to the system if you add a significant length of oil line.
