Trailer Wheel Recommendation for Hub Centric Wheel w 4 on 4 in Bolt Pattern and 2.43 Pilot Diameter

Published 11/11/2015

Question:

I am looking for new wheels to fit my trailer. It has 4 on 4inch bolt pattern, with 1/2-20 standard conical wheel BOLTS, but Im confused about Lug-Centric vs Hub-Centric, as my hubs fit the definition of Hub-Centric, except no wheels available are correct pilot diameter 2-7/16. 2.43 Actually, my hubs are identical in size to others 5 on 4-1/2 classed as Lug-Centric. Am I seeing problems where none exist?

If the wheels of your trailer get secured with bolts instead of lug nuts then you have a hub-centric setup. If instead there are lug nuts then it is lug centric.

If you have a hub centric setup the pilot diameter of the wheels much match the hub's diameter exactly so that the wheel will be centered properly when installed.

The closest wheel we offer to what you would need is the # AM30000 which has a pilot diameter of 2.5 inches since yours has a 2.43 inch diameter. This wheel comes with a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern. You might remeasure the hub you have to see if this will fit. It would need to be right at 2.43 inches for this rim to work though.
