Recommended Trunk-Mounted Bike Carrier For 2008 Mazda 3 With Spoiler

Updated 11/03/2015 | Published 11/02/2015

Question:

Hello - Ive looked through your site and it looks like there are a number of options for my 2008 Mazda 3 Hatchback with a spoiler. Id very much like to get a recommendation from you: Id like a 2-bike carrier thats fairly easy to setup and locks, or can be made to lock, and wont harm the car. Thanks so much for your help,

It can be tough finding the right bike carrier for a vehicle when there are so many choices. For your vehicle I recommend the Hollywood Racks Over-The-Top Bike Carrier, part # HRF2.

This bike rack is designed for vehicles that may have a spoiler as well as those that do not. The carrier features anti-sway cradles that prevent bike-to-bike contact and the rack folds down for easy storage when not in use.

For securing the carrier to the vehicle to help prevent theft I recommend part # TH533. This loops around the bike rack and the other end closes up in the hatch. For securing the bikes to the carrier I recommend part # e98891. This is a 10 ft long plastic coated steel cable that you can secure the bike to the bike carrier.

When carrying bikes with alternative frames like kids bikes or women's bikes I recommend using an adapter bar like part # 64005. This attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem and allows the bike to be carried more level in the carrier while providing additional ground clearance. I have attached a product review video for this adapter bar.
