Question:
I am looking for a hitch for a 2003 Explorer 4 dr. I want one that that replaces the oem and does not mount underneath. All the ones I see mount underneath. Thanks

You're correct that the three hitches we offer for your 2003 Ford Explorer (shown on the linked page) are intended to install along with, but not to replace, your factory-installed hitch. This is because the OEM hitch is actually part of the vehicle's rear bumper structure and cannot be removed. An aftermarket hitch like the Curt # C13550 will therefore install just under the OEM hitch but remain independent of it. This resulting 2-hitch configuration means you could potentially use the OEM receiver for a hitch-mount accessory item such as a bike rack while the aftermarket hitch remains available for towing.
