Question:
I have just ordered a ETBC7 4-pin to 7/4-pin conversion kit and a Tekonsha P2 brake controller. But I really need to know if my 2003 Tacoma has a port for the brake controller. It has a tow package but only have a 4-pin trailer connection. Thank you for your help.

Since they did not start putting brake controller plug-in ports on a Tacoma until 2007 you will have to hardwire your brake controller to the vehicle wiring. At the back of the brake controller you will have 4 wires. The blue wire will need to run back to the blue wire on the back of the 7-way connector at the rear of the Tacoma. the black wire will be run to the positive post on the battery via a 20 Amp circuit breaker like part # PK54220.
The red wire will need to be attached to the cold side of the stop light switch that is located at the top of the brake pedal arm under the dash. You can use a circuit tester and attach the red wire to the wire that shows current only when the brake pedal is pressed.
The White wire is a ground and should be attached to the negative battery post.
I have attached a drawing that shows how a brake controller wiring is run. I also attached a helpful article that explains how to install part # ETBC7 you can check out.
