Published 08/28/2015

Question:

I am looking for a weight distribution hitch WDH. Tow vehicle: 2006 Toyota Tundra double cab 4.7L V8 Wheelbase 140.5inch Curb weight: 4765 lb.s Max GVWR: 6600 lb.s Max tongue weight: 700 lb.s with WDH Max. gross trailer weight inculding cargo to never exceed: 7000 lb.s This trucks gasoline tank is 26 gallons. I will carry three people including myself in truck so passenger total will be approximately 500 lb.s. Travel trailer tag-a-long is: Year model 2000 Coachmen Catalina Lite 241FK front kitchen Empty weight: 4,000 lb.s just under actually I will have food, supplies, battery, two propane tanks etc. to trailer and/or truck that will make it heavier of course. I am trying to determine the best manufacturer, type and weight rating WDH with sway control to buy. I need to stay under $700.00. I would like something that is quiet if possible and easier rather than harder to hook up and disconnect. Any help is appreciated. Thanks,

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

The best WD system with sway control is going to be the Strait-Line systems like the # RP66084 that has a tongue weight range of 600 lbs - 1,200 lbs and features the only sway control designed to fight sway before it starts. Most likely this would the correct system to use based on what your most likely tongue weight would be. But you should verify this first.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
