Determining If 2012 Toyota Tacoma Has A Factory Tow Package

Question:

Hello at ETrailer, This might seem like a silly question but how would I know if my vehicle has been equipped with a full tow package. The vehicle has a trailer hitch/ 7 pin wire hookup but was wondering what else should there be to be called a trailer package. Also have benefited many times from ETrailers products. Thanks for your time and giving great customer service.

Since your 2012 Toyota Tacoma has a factory 7-way and trailer hitch installed, it likely has a tow package.

Another component your vehicle may have that is related to a tow package is a brake controller port. When installing a brake controller, for your 2012 Tacoma with a brake controller port, you will be able to use a vehicle-specific brake controller wiring harness. This wiring harness would plug into the back of the brake controller and then into a port located under the dash, underneath and to the left of the steering column, and taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.

To install the brake controller that you referenced, the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885, you would be able to use the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - Toyota and Lexus # 3040-P.

Sometimes, when vehicles are equipped with a tow package, the factory will add an additional transmission cooler. What comes with a tow package on a vehicle will vary with manufacturers. The best way to find out what your vehicle is equipped with is to call your Toyota dealer with your VIN, and they should be able to let you know what is on your vehicle.
