Adding a Brake Controller and 7-Way to a 2000 Ford Econoline 150 with 4-Way Flat Connector

Updated 08/03/2015 | Published 08/02/2015

Question:

The plug under the dash is easy to find as is the aftermarket harness to plug right into it and into a brake controller. This suggests brake wiring to the back with brake wiring for power brakes. Yet for the back end of the van I can only seem to find a aftermarket T connector that goes to a flat four plug. Is there a plug and play unit for a 7 pin flat trailer connector with brakes? Because it seems like thats what the plug under the dash is for or am I missing something here..... Or do I use the flat four adapter to make the lights work and still need to run a separate wire for brake controls??? And wire it all into a flat 7 prong round plug?

The blue output wire to the trailer brakes on your 2000 Ford Van will need to be manually run from the brake controller back to the plug in the rear. The brake controller power supply and brake pedal wires are already run.

Since your Van has a 4-Way you will just need # 37185 to add a 7-Way and enough wire, # 10-1-1, sold by the foot, to go from the brake controller, through the firewall, under the van, to the blue wire on 37185. When routing the wire avoid areas that could pinch or burn the wire.

You will also need the brake controller and controller harness. I recommend the P2 # 90885 and the harness needed is # 3035-P. You will need to cut the blue wire and connect it to the 10-1-1 wire instead. I have included a link to a video that should help.
