Question:
What does the OL message code stand for? I recently installed the hopkins brake-away system and I have the activator II in the truck, it first wasnt working then it worked fine for a couple days now I get an error message OL flashing on the activator II. I thought it was the trailer battery but after charging it I still get the same error message. any thoughts? 2001 chevy silverado LS 4-wheel drive 4 door extended cab, thanks, PS Do I need to calibrate the Activator IV and How?

What you are experiencing is an overload or short somewhere in the brake circuit connected to the Draw-Tite Activator IV Brake Controller, part # 5504. The problem is not that it needs calibration. Closely examine the brake output wire (usually blue). Make sure all connections are tight, and that the wire is not pinched or the insulation is not worn or nicked, allowing the conductor to short out on the trailer frame.
Check the trailer and vehicle side connectors for dirt or corrosion build up in the plugs and in the back of each plug where the wires are. Corrosion and/or dirt can cause a short. This is the most common issue.
