Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2015 Nissan Frontier and Use Tow Defender

Published 06/03/2015

Question:

I have a 2015 Nissan Frontier Pro4X pickup that I am looking at add a baseplate to. I see on your site you have the Roadmaster 344-1B listed but not the RM344-1A. Im specifically wanting the 1A because it allows the use of the TowDefender, which I use on our other toad. Is there a reason you all dont list the 1A?

The Roadmaster Base Plate kit part # 344-1B is an XL base plate kit that is compatible with the Roadmaster TowDefender part # RM-4700 so it should work well for you.

In addition to the base plates, you will also need a compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking to flat tow your vehicle. The most popular compatible tow bar is the Falcon 2, # RM-520. For safety cables you can use # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.

For lighting you can use the bulb and socket kit, # RM-155, and not have to worry about cutting and splicing into the vehicle wiring.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Patriot proportional system, # BRK2012, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the two vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

I have included a couple of helpful links to our articles on flat towing for you. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual for more specific information on flat towing your vehicle.

I checked with Roadmaster and couldn't find a 344-1A as an available part from them.
