How is the hitch attached to the car? Is it necessary to drill holes through the trunk base?

Installing trailer hitch, # 24755, requires about 7 steps according to the instructions (attached below). Basically, the hitch attaches to the bottom of the trunk (trunk Pan) and to the tow hook already on your 2008 Acura TL. You will need access to the trunk and there is some drilling involved to install this hitch.
When using a bike rack with this hitch, you must be sure to stay within the limits of the hitch. You will need a rack that will fit in a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening, works with a Class I hitch, and carries no more than 2 bikes. You will need to stay under the 200 pound tongue weight capacity of this hitch as well.
I recommend the Swagman Trailhead, # S63360. This bike rack is compatible with the trailer hitch you referenced. It weights about 34 pounds so you will be left with 166 pounds of tongue weight capacity. I have included a link to the installation details for this rack below.
