Question:
I have a Jetta with the RM521227-3 brackets and was wondering if they will work on a 2001 Beetle that I have recently purchased that says should have the RM521225-1 brackets. What is the difference? From what I can see the cars have the same sub frames.

Expert Reply:
There are minor differences on the front subframe area that would prevent the RM521227-3 base plates from being used on your 2001 Volkswagen Beetle. For the Beetle, you would want to use part # 521225-1. For safety reasons, we cannot recommend using base plates other than those Roadmaster recommends for the vehicle. You are towing a 2700 pound vehicle behind a motorhome attached essentially by a few bolts. It is imperative that the junction between the tow bar and the towed vehicle be as strong as possible.
