Since your 2002 Nissan Frontier did not come with a factory 7-Way you will need to hardwire in a brake controller such as the P2 # 90885. You will just need to use an installation kit # 5506.
To install the controller, you will need to attach the white brake controller wire to the negative battery terminal. Black goes to the positive terminal via the circuit breaker included with the # 5506 kit. The blue wire will need to connect to the back of the 7-Way in the 7 o'clock position if looking at the back of the 7-Way.
That just leaves the brake controller red wire. It will need to attach to the cold side of the brake switch located above the brake pedal. It should be a brown wire with a red stripe. Use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 to test it. It should only have power when you press on the brake pedal. If it shows power with the head lights or turn signals on too then it is not the correct wire.
You will need to run the other 3 wires through the firewall. this may require drilling through the firewall if an existing grommet is not available. be careful when drilling not to drill through anything on the other side.
When routing the blue wire to the back of the truck, avoid areas that can pinch or burn the wire. I have linked a video that you can use as a guide. It is not exactly the same install but it should help you.
