Fit of Yakima Ridgeback 2 Bike Rack # Y02457 in Class I Hitch on 2014 Toyota Corolla
Published 02/20/2015 >
Question:
I was looking at the Yakima ridgeback 2 bike carrier for my 2015 Toyota Corolla. I get so many mixed reviews when looking at questions about the rack fitting into a class 1 hitch. Some say yes, it will work, others say no, it wont fit because there is a tab in a class 1 hitch preventing it from going in far enough to lock. Now the Yakima website says that this rack will fit in class 1 hitches. You guys say class 2. Is there a straight answer somewhere on this?

As you noted, many Class I hitches have a stop welded or punched into the receiver tube that prevents an accessory meant for a Class II accessory from being used. In the past, to avoid confusion, Yakima found it simpler to state their racks wouldn't fit Class I hitches than it would be to explain that they would fit some Class I's but not others.
The Ridgeback 2 bike rack you're asking about avoids this whole issue, as it doesn't use a hitch pin that passes all the way through the receive tube. The rack is held in the receiver tube mainly by the anti rattle wedge that prevents the rack from being removed from the receiver when it's tightened.
Long story short, the Ridgeback 2 rack will fit in the Class I hitch on your Corolla.
