Does Manual Override Lever on Draw-Tite Activator Trailer Brake Controller # 5504 Stay Locked

Question:

I recently went to do my Cdl pretrip test, the trailer I was in had your product and the instructor said I could not go on with my road test because the slider on the unit is suppose to stay locked when checking the trailer breaks is that true? My trainer said no! But I dont see how else I can check my trailer breaks unless I go out and manually applie the emergency switch myself.. Can you please explain who is right so that I can get on with the road trip. Thank you,

The manual override lever on a trailer brake controller such as the Draw-Tite Activator # 5504 is not intended to lock in the "on" position. These controls are always spring-loaded to return them to their off position unless held on by you.
