Transmission coolers are designed to be a supplement to your cooling system and are not designed to replace a system that may be faulty or damaged. You said you have a leak and if a transmission cooler is needed on your 2001 Dodge Ram Pickup.
Since some of the cooling systems on Ram pickups vary due to engine size and how the vehicle was built, you will want to make sure your system is working properly before adding a transmission cooler. I recommend you take the truck to a certified mechanic and have them check the system out and get it in good working order first.
If you wish to get a cooler to supplement your system I recommend the Derale Transmission Cooler, part # D13504. This is a Class lV Plate-Fin cooler and includes the complete mounting kit. This cooler measures 11 inches wide x 12 inches tall x 7/8 inch deep. I have attached a drawing that shows the best locations when installing a transmission cooler. I hav ealso attached a link to a product review video for this transmission cooler you can check out.
To eliminate the need to cut and flare new lines you can use the Derale Radiator Adapter Fittings, part # D13034.
