Video Transcript for Diamond RV Lighting On/Off Push Button Switch Installation

Hey guys, Kevin here with etrailer. Today I'm gonna be showing you how to install the Diamond on-off push button, RV lighting switch. So as you can see, this on-off switch is very, very tiny. So it's gonna be super discreet which is exactly what we need for our light install, that we're doing right now. So as you can see, we got a light bar we're gonna be running some power to. We wanna be able to control this without actually touching all the other lights because we don't want to have this on 24/7 when we have our other lights on, just because this light is gonna be blinding.

So that's where this is gonna come in handy. If you look at it very closely there's this little piece you can kind of unscrew off and then you could actually hide this inside of a wall with just the button itself sticking out. And then this kind of capping it off to make it look nice. But with our walls today on this trailer, they're too thin. We're not gonna actually be able to put anything in the wall itself.

So we're just gonna be using some double-sided tape on the back of our switch here and then sticking it on the wall. And because it's all black, it's gonna fit in really nice with the aesthetics of this trailer because of the wall that we're gonna be sticking it on is all black. So it won't really be that noticeable. So I decided this is probably a good height for our toggle switch here. So I'm gonna go ahead and I'm gonna strip back our wire loom.

I'm gonna be real careful not to actually cut my wire yet; 'cause I'm only gonna be cutting the power and not actually the neutral. There we go. So now I can go ahead, make a little break in my power here. And you wanna make sure that you have this while your power's disconnected. We don't want any surges going through and messing anything up.

And because I had already made this so tight before the first time I installed it, I'm gonna add a little bit more length to my wire. Just so that I can have this re-attach correctly, when we tie in our light. Crimp that down. All right. Now we can go ahead and start running our wire over for our light bar. We're gonna go ahead and kind of bend it back down 'cause that's gonna go ahead and match right back up to our original wire, that we cut. And we're gonna butt connect to that to one side of our switch. 'Cause we want this to always be on and only our light bar to be operated by the switch. So with these two connected back together again our light down there is gonna work anytime our switch is turned on for all of our other lights. We can go ahead and crimp that to one side of our switch. And then for the other side, we're gonna use another butt connector. Just go ahead and put it on this side first. And run that over to the power wire that we have running to our light bar. So now we're gonna go ahead and do a little test of our wiring. Make sure that our switch is actually working. As you can see the lights are on the ceiling and down at the bottom for our other lights. Let's go ahead and flip the switch. And our light bar is working. And easily able to turn on and off. That way it's not always blinding, anytime he's having to just walk in and out of his trailer, but it's gonna be there and useful whenever he is trying to pull his race car in. So I got some industrial double-sided tape here that's gonna do a really good job at holding this in place, since we're not actually implanting this inside the wall and we're just sticking it on. But let's go ahead and do that now. And luckily this pretty much fits this body of our switch here. Go ahead and stick that on. And then we can go ahead and peel back our backing. And get it exactly where we want it. And just press down nice and tight. Make sure this is really getting stuck on there. Now that our switch is in place. I'm gonna go ahead and clean up all of our wiring here using some wire loom. Now with our wiring all covered up, looking nice and neat. That'll do it for our installation here of the Diamond on-off push button switch for RV lighting. Here that we install on our enclosed trailer for our light bar. My name's Kevin. Thanks for watching, guys..

  • Push Button Light Switch for a Wall Light
A black push button switch that'll work for your light is part # DG52452VP. We actually just tested this to make sure it'll work the way you need it to. The switch you looked at, part # DG52451VP, is a black push button but cannot be used as a light switch because it's a momentary switch. Meaning it automatically resets itself and would immediately turn the light right back off.

  • Operating Voltage and Amperage For the On/Off Push Button Switch for RV Lighting
I spoke with Diamond Group and they told me that the On/Off Push Button Switch for RV Lighting - 4" Wire Leads # DG52452VP is just a DC switch and it is rated for 14V and 10 amps. Since this is just a DC switch there is not an AC rating for it.

  • Amp Rating, Wire Gauge, and Dimensions of On/Off Push Button Switch for RV Lighting
I reached out to the manufacturer who was able to provide me all the specs for the On/Off Push Button Switch for RV Lighting # DG52453VP (White/Gold) and # DG52452VP (Black). I have added cut outs of the dimensional drawing for you which has the size of the switch. It is rated for up to 14 volts DC and 10 amps; the wires are 18 gauge.

  • Recommended Light Strip For Creating Custom Length Lights
I do have a recommendation for you as the Access LED Truck Bed Lighting System # A70380 is not designed to be connected to other light strips. The Optronics Flexible LED Light Strip # UCL90CB is a 17' roll with the ability to be cut every 1-15/16" to give you a custom length. You can attach it to a switch using the included wiring or we have the Light Strip 12-Volt Connector # A90PB if you are connecting multiple sections. • How To Wire In Three Thermat Heat RV Tank And Pipe Heater Pads
The ThermaHeat RV Dump Valve Pipe and Elbow Heating Pad # 277-000162 pulls 0.3 amps and the ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank or Step Heater Pad # 277-000164 pulls 4.8 amps. Assuming that you're having them all run off the same switch and wiring you would be fine using a 10amp fuse # SWC9538 and some 14 gauge wire. You can run the power wire from the battery to a switch, like part # DG52452VP, and then either splice three separate wires from the switch to the pads or one wire from the switch...

  • How Does On/Off Push Button Switch for RV Lighting Wire
The On/Off Push Button Switch for RV Lighting # DG52452VP doesn't have a specific wiring diagram. Basically it can install on any circuit and will allow the circuit to pass voltage through when on and would kill it when it is off.

When it comes to an on/off push button switch that always stays on until you push it again to turn it off, I recommend The On/Off Push Button Switch for RV Lighting - 4 inch Wire Leads - Black # DG52452VP. This maintained switch allows you to control on/off functionality for RV lighting. It has a simple operation - button is pushed once for "on" and pushed again for "off". • Pace American Model JT714TA2 Side Door Latch Replacement and Light Switch
I looked up pictures of your Pace American Model JT714TA2 trailer and it appears the trailer uses a standard side door latch commonly found on trailers. So since you lost your key the easiest option would be to replace what you have with the Global Link RV Door Latch Kit # 295-000019. For an easy interior lighting switch we have the On/Off Push Button Switch for RV Lighting # DG52452VP which easily installs and allows you to turn the lighting off and on with just the push of a button.

I recommend installing the Optronics LED Off-Road Light Bar - 11,600 Lumens - Mixed Beam - Double Row - 50" Long Item # UCL25CB on the top or side of your trailer to provide more light. This Light bar has an easy tilting adjustment to get the perfect angle for more visibility. It has two brackets that come with bolts for you to easily attach it to the trailer wall or roof. • Recommended Light Switch For An LED Trailer Dome Light
The LED Trailer Dome Light for Remote Switch # 3375625336 doesn't come with a remote but can be easily wired to a switch for activation. The switch you use is really just going to depend on what you like aesthetically or simply have space for. • How Does the On/Off Push Button Install and Work
The On/Off Push Button Switch for RV Lighting # DG52452VP doesn't have a specific wiring diagram, it would vary depending on your intended use. Basically the switch will install into the circuit you are needing to interrupt so that the current can flow through it when it is on and cuts off the current when it is off. I can not say for sure without seeing/knowing your exact scenario but more than likely yes, you will splice this into the wiring between the plug and lamp.

  • Can A RV Push Button Switch Be Swapped to a Rocker Switch?
I'm not certain, but If I had to guess it'd probably come down to cost. It's probably more cost effective for the manufacturer to buy push button switches that are pre-wired rather than rocker switches. With that said, the push button switch like # DG52452VP is just a 12v on/off switch, so you could totally swap it with a rocker switch like the Single Rocker Switch # 37212595. If you wanted to go a step further I recommend pairing that with the Single RV Switch Faceplate # 37212855 for...
