Hello Johanna, thanks for reaching out. The Malone Runway Spare Tire Bike Rack # MPG2148 will not work with the Yakima HitchSki # Y02418. The HitchSki can only be used with Yakima brand dual-arm hitch mounted bike racks. The Malone Runway is a dual arm rack, but it is not hitch mounted so it would not work. The hitch mount is much more secure and sturdy than the tire mount. The Roadmaster StowMaster 500 (predecessor to the part # RM-501) requires a base plate kit to be installed on the vehicle that you're towing. Roadmaster used to have the kit 606-1 for a 1991 Isuzu Trooper II, but it's no longer available so the only way you'll be able to get one is if someone is selling a used one online.

The Thule Cargo Basket part # TH859XT would be a great choice for a cargo basket as long as the cross bars on the roof of your 1988 Isuzu Trooper are spread apart between 20 inches and 37 inches.
If you don't have crossbars on your roof you will first need a roof rack for that I would recommend the Thule Roof Rack which is made up of parts # TH711520 and # TH65BJ. This would work well with the basket and your vehicle as it is confirmed to fit it.
